ATTRACTIONS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE

Piazza Navona Campo de' Fiori Pantheon Castel Sant' Angelo Vaticano Lungotevere Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II Foro Romano Piazza del Popolo Fontana di Trevi Piazza di Spagna Colosseo

ROME: TASTE AUTHENTICITY

SUPERMARKET:

• The best option is Carrefour, located just around the corner on Via del Governo Vecchio. Here, you’ll find stands offering fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, cold cuts, cheeses, freshly baked bread, and everything else you might need.

Avoid the PAM supermarket on the corner of Piazza della Chiesa Nuova, as they only sell pre-packaged and plastic-wrapped products. Additionally, it has become a hotspot for alcohol dealings among the homeless in the square.

RESTAURANTS:

• There are two good restaurantson the small Placeon the corner with Via del Governo Vecchio: 433 and FATTO IN CASA: both serve menus of Italian and especially Roman cuisine. Try them both and let us know which you preferred.

• NEW ENTRY: in recent times, after the restaurant changed management, we go very often to AL BRACIERE (Via della Chiesa Nuova, 12). It’s less well known than other restaurants in the vicinity (as “Da Francesco” or “Il Corallo”) so it is never overcrowded and really cheaper. The traditional Roman cuisine is of a good standard (you can taste this from the olive oil or the quality of the buffalo mozzarella) and we find the pizza exceptional. Ideal for those who like grilled meat. The service is courteous and the prices are good. If you mention that you’re staying at Laura & Dada’s apartments, the staff will be especially kind to you.

PLEASEavoid restaurants with queues outside: it is absolutely not true, that if there is a queue it must be good. A new phenomenon generated by social networks, converges towards some, often mediocre restaurants, a mass of mostly young people, who mean it is worth waiting an hour in line to find a seat in that particular restaurant, rather than in so many others, such as the ones we have mentioned. This is really absurd.

TV SPORT EVENTS

• In Via del Governo Vecchio in front of the Pizzeria Baffetto, you find ABBEY THEATRE, an Irish pub where you can watch sporting events broadcast live on TV, with a wide choice of quality beers and delicious food. The venue has multiple rooms, with different screens, so you can ask to see the desired event. If you are a group, book in advance.

GELATERIAS (ICE CREAM):

• In via del Governo Vecchio, in front of the pizzeria Baffetto you will find FRIGIDARIUM. The Tripadvisor effect, or other online guides, have given this small place world fame. For us who live in Rome, it is inexplicable to stand in line for half an hour for an ice cream, since there are other gelaterias nearby at the same level.

• There is SWEET LIFE a new and successful Gelateria in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 270

• But I find the best ice cream is produced by the GELATERIA DEL TEATRO (via dei Coronari 65,66). You will find surprising cream and fruit flavours.

BREAKFAST:

• A great spot for breakfast is Essenza Verde, located at Piazza dell’Orologio 14/15. It’s perfect for both Italian and American-style breakfasts. You can choose to sit either outside or inside, where there is a coworking space filled with books.

• Another spacious and comfortable option is Ristocaffè, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 215. They offer hearty English breakfasts, including omelets and bacon, as well as fresh juices, vegetable extracts, and high-quality pastries and cakes.

PIZZERIAS:

• in Via del Governo Vecchio 114 there is BAFFETTO, probably the most famous pizzeria in Rome. You recognize it for the inevitable queue. Baffetto is a historic place and the pizza is one of the best in Rome. But we only go there if we don't find a queue: either very early or very late at night.

• We almost always go to LA MONTECARLO in Vicolo Savelli 13: paper tablecloths, confusion, fast service and reasonable prices. Order the typical Roman fried foods as an appetizer. The pizza is excellent; the spaghetti alla carbonara, amatriciana and clams are also good and to finish the classic Italian desserts.

• But the pizzeria we in the family love the most is a little further away, on the other side of the Tiber: AR POPI POPI (Via delle Fratte di Trastevere). Tell the staff that Raffaele (Laura's husband and Dada's father) sent you and they will welcome you with special care.

• And a very special place has recently reopened: the PIZZERIA FIERAMOSCA in Piazza dei Mercanti. It is well worth a visit for its urban ambience, which looks like a film set, and for the interior filled with objects, reminiscent of the place's origin as a port warehouse.

LAUNDRY:

The perfect laundry is in Vicolo del Governo Vecchio 8, just across the street. It’s a self-service laundry, but Ada and Claudio will help you to clean and dry your clothing, so you don’t have to stay and wait there.

BAR:

• Bar del Fico, Piazza del Fico 26

• Vivi Bistrot, Piazza Navona 2

• Bar dell'orologio, Via del Governo Vecchio, 23

• Ristocaffè, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II 215

• Caffè Perù, Via di Monserrato 46

OVERVIEW ON MAP

PARKING

The apartments are located in the centre of Rome, wich is subject to restricted traffic to reduce CO2 Emissions. Because of that we do not recommend to travel to Rome with a Car. Everything you want to see is within walking distance from our apartments, so you won't need it.

If you come with the car anyway, there is a paid parking close to the apartments, that you can reach without entering the restricted traffic zone. On the picture you can see the details or visit the website.

In case you want to save money it's also possible to park the car outside the centre and then take the bus to our location.
